Prerequisites
for IDC program

PREREQUISITES FOR IDC / AI Program

Check this list to see what requirements you need to have before starting your Instructor Develoment Course (IDC) and Assistant Instructror (AI) Course : 

​

  • 18 years old minimum

  • Medical clearance attesting that you can dive signed by a doctor within the previous 12 months

  • Certified diver for six months

  • EFR Primary and Secondary Care course completion (or qualifying training) within the last 24 months

  • Dive Leader certification - PADI Divemaster or leadership-level certification with a recognized recreational diver training organization who is either :

    • an instructor member in good standing, or

    • a diver with proof of certification in diver supervision and management including proof of rescue diving certification; 60 logged dives; documented experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation.

  • If not a PADI Divemaster, complete the PADI Divemaster course diver rescue skills assessment

  • Submit documentation of qualifying certifications for entry level, advanced, rescue and leadership level, as necessary

 
 
 

Prerequisites for the OWSI Program

  • Meet all IDC/AI course prerequisites above

  • PADI Assistant Instructor or current instructor member in good standing with a recognized recreational diver training organization for at least 6 months

Prerequisites for attending A 
PADI Instructor Examination (IE)

  • Successful PADI IDC completion within 12 months of IE start date

  • 100 logged dives

  • PADI Instructor Certificate of Completion that has both the OWSI/IDC completion date and dive experience sections signed by a PADI Course Director ; or a PADI IE Certificate of Participation from a previous IE

  • PADI IE Enrollment form and fee
